Starting a
business is one of the most difficult challenges you can undertake AND one
of the most rewarding… if it succeeds. I used to think that life as an
entrepreneur is no different than other people's lives, except that you work
for yourself-not for someone else. Nobody told me that starting a business
is like pushing a boulder up a hill. The second you stop pushing, it will
roll down `on top of you.
If you start a
business from scratch, there's no momentum. You could even say there's
negative momentum. Your revenues lag far behind your expenses, and you just
have to push, and push, and push some more to get additional business.
It takes a long
time before you get some positive momentum in the form of repeat clients and
referrals. Many startups require seventy hours a week for the first few years,
as well as putting everything you make back into them. Eventually, if your
business succeeds, you can put in fewer hours, have fewer worries, and achieve
manageable debt.
