Conclusion
The first step towards better health will be to take the body off dehydration alert by drinking at least 4 pints of water daily, in order to stop it producing the mucus and cholesterol which are going to coat the cell membrane. It is evident that the advice given by the old naturopaths about drinking lots of water would have immediately started to assure the body with regard to its dehydration alert signals. If we fail to give that assurance then a thicker and increasingly impermeable wall around our cells is created, thus blocking the flow of fluid between the inside and the outside of the cell. This reflects in a lack of 'connectedness' between our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual selves. Without aiding movement to restore this connectedness which also leads to a greater feeling of security, we cannot create freedom and healing.
Body mucus will always be a very strong indicator of hydration and of the degree of freedom of movement within the body. When there is a toxic level in childhood we produce a runny nose, releasing mucus to the outside. As we grow older and our vitality decreases, more and more mucus is retained inside the body. This can be seen as a 'thickening' of the mucus, leading to a less flowing picture within both the body generally and the cells individually. Instead, we should have the lining of muco-polysaccharides (from the aloe vera) which will help the cell experience a state of confidence.
Yet the speed at which the mucus leaves the cells must match the speed at which the mucus leaves the body. Otherwise it is like meeting a dam, and what builds up will create its own illness picture; as skin eruptions, headaches and similar states. This is not desirable. The main route out should be via the liver. There are supports (naturopathic techniques) to take the load off the liver that can be used when there are aggravations.
So, you do need to reduce the mucus load before EFAs can be really effective. You need the resulting appreciable opening up of the cells before the EFAs can be used properly. High mucus loading also reflects in low body temperature. This is the state in which we have viral activity and as body temperature comes up the virus will cease to be active. Fats also need a certain level of temperature to be broken down and either utilized or eliminated. If you have low body temperature, you will not be able to do this. The temperature change can be done mechanically while one is unable to do it bio-chemically. Hence the use of hot tubbing and hot and cold water therapy where the temperature can be kept artificially high for an hour.
Thus the next step will be to get the body temperature up closer to normal in order for the body to be able to use Essential Fatty Acids, needed to produce prostaglandins that in turn are needed in order to work with B6 and minerals to produce hormones. Otherwise there will be a block in the chain, there will be inability to use minerals for the nightly cleansing as well as for other purposes. The lack of flow is usually because the ability to break down the fats is blocked. The inability to break down B6, which runs alongside difficulty with the EFAs, links to the difficulty with using zinc and magnesium. The need for movement out of the cells at night, with potassium and magnesium working together, needs to be kept in mind.
So only once you can break down EFAs and also B6 can you finally start to use magnesium and zinc. And to think that magnesium injections are being given to patients with CFS/ME! Lecithin (part of the much needed EFAs) is going to be dissolving fatty deposits in which toxins are stored, so initially that should not be used, except in tiny amounts - otherwise too much will be released for the liver to be able to handle.
The minerals come right at the end of the chain of processes in the body. From our naturopathy viewpoint we know that you cannot re-nurture before you de-toxify. In the "allopathic" way of using minerals, whatever is put in is used to create a reaction, but that is not what they are fundamentally intended for, that is not their true function in the body, so the apparent change will be for a short period only. So we return to the basics, the solvent is more important than the solute.
I have introduced the concept of the progression of dis-ease through the generations and the need to work gently with the body's own pace and vitality, without ever adding further stress or strain. To allow a true recovery of health and well being of the mind-body-spirit, I place great emphasis on naturopathic re-hydration techniques, a swollen diet, the use of Essential Fatty Acids and, when the body is ready and sending clear messages, using appropriate supplements if required.
As a College, we do not believe in looking at symptoms and filling the person up with things they may be short of. Instead, we look at how to correct the imbalance so as to allow that person to respond to natural events, like the powerful equinoxes, and to the greater whole, which is where the healing can reach from.
