There are a variety of different ways to deliver coaching. The most common is the weekly phone call – you might never actually meet your coach face to face. Telephone coaching is compact, efficient, convenient, and frequent enough, at weekly intervals, to maintain momentum.

Most often, a time is scheduled for you to call your coach, once a week for three weeks every month and the call lasts for 30, 45 or 60 minutes - although clients have been known to have sessions as often as once a day and as rarely as once a month. It is up to the client and what they believe they need and want.

Sessions are very focused and you can call in from wherever you are, so telephone coaching is very convenient. Hopefully, you have made a list of items you want to discuss, perhaps some projects you are working on.

Your coach will discuss the items with you, ask questions, sometimes make suggestions, and the two of you will agree on action steps you can take right away. Most coaches offer some form of feedback between sessions, particularly by email.

You will need to check fees and practical arrangements with individual coaches. Most coaches charge individual personal clients a monthly fee for a set number of sessions, paid in advance. Fees charged by coaches range quite broadly, depending on their expertise and the demand for their time. Fees for experienced professional coaches usually range from £250/$400 to £1000/$1500 per month, and more. Sometimes newer coaches will provide Planning very inexpensively. You can inquire about working with a student coach.

The time you can expect to work with any one coach can vary considerably, and you may wish to discuss this in a preliminary conversation. Some coaches ask their individual clients to commit to a particular period of time, which might be three or six months but you can usually stop at any time if coaching isn't working for you.

It is important to view coaching as a long-term investment in your future, however. This is not a "quick fix". Coaching is most effective when it is viewed as a partnership between you and your coach to design and build the life you really want. That does not happen over night! Coaches often work with clients for a year or more to develop skills that will last for a life-time. Most coaches have a coach themselves.
