Energy Detox: for better health

Do you experience uncomfortable side effects (such as headaches, nausea, and/or skin problems) when "doing a detox"? Do you wonder why you can feel worse when detoxifying?

Side effects are due to the toxins being released from inside the cells but unable to come out of the body. Tremendous amounts of physical, emotional, and mental toxins are released when we fast or even just cut out coffee or wheat and dairy products. The Energy Detox also creates detoxification on a daily, hourly, even minute-by-minute basis.

But will toxicity released from inside the cells actually be able to leave the body? Not if the body has been toxic for decades! And you will know that your body is toxic  because you cannot have a health problem unless you have been accumulating toxins for a very long time indeed.

We can feel worse during a detox because the main routes of elimination will not be working properly in a body with health problems. As a result, the released toxins get backed-up in the "waterways" of the body (lymph and blood). Notice when your toxic picture is showing. It is different for each person: it could be an incredible urge to eat sugar or to binge, nausea, fatigue, feeling "fluey", diarrhea, depression,  migraines/ headaches, inability to sleep at night, lethargy, irritability or extreme mood swings, itchy skin, eczema or asthma attacks.  It could be a cold or even flu, sometimes flare-ups of chronic conditions like arthritis or hay fever.

Healing is really about release. Release, at its deepest physical level, opens up and cleanses the cells in the body, thus allowing more movement and freedom. Thus cleansing equals release, movement, freedom. The cells are enabled to open up and release the toxicity that has been accumulating and is stuck inside.

The catch, however, is that in these stressed and polluted times, our bodies are no longer functioning optimally. Although "stuck" toxins come out through the cell walls (membranes) and into the body fluids (blood and lymph), we may not be able to get that toxicity out of the body. Toxins hanging around in the fluids create symptoms. Unpleasant symptoms. This is why people can experience symptoms during detoxification and cleansing processes.

These can be bad enough to be called a "healing crisis" which really reflects your toxic picture: whatever you are like when you are feeling worse than usual. There is nothing particularly good about a healing crisis. Any fool can create one (and too many therapists do).

It means that our bodies have released toxins at a rate faster than our main routes of elimination can process them out of the body. The skill actually lies in avoiding a "healing crisis" by matching the rate of elimination from inside the cells to the rate at which it can leave the body.  (Thus, a healing crisis is often a sign of a mismanaged cleansing.)

It is possible to have very uncomfortable symptoms whilst undertaking Energy Detox although it usually means that the body is so desperate to detox that it is overwhelming the main routes of elimination for a while (see "your toxic picture" above).

What can you do at these times to help out your body? The best way is to increase your water intake substantially. One of the most important things you can do to help your body during detoxification phases is to drink more water. Water is usually the most valuable thing possible to help your body through this time. This is because increased cleansing results in more demand for water. One function of water is as a universal solvent to assist elimination as well as detoxification.

Drink plain, clean (not tap/faucet) water with nothing added to it - no fizz, flavoring, or sugar much less tea, coffee, alcohol, juice or the like. The daily minimum should be 4 pints (2 litres) during normal times (more during exercise or hot weather): with uncomfortable symptoms during detoxing, it could be helpful to double this minimum.
