Emotional
Intelligence enables you to change, change other individuals
involved, and change destiny. Maintaining others' self-esteem is
simple: clearly, honestly, openly, and early on, say what you will do
and what you want others to do. Accept any undesirable responses or
reactions for the time being. Turn up the emotional intelligence
effort.
Questions to ask yourself
 | Do I
understand the importance of the emotional side of life in the
professional world? |
 | Do I
see how just being brilliant isn't sufficient? |
 | Do I
want to control my effect on others versus leaving it to chance? |
 | Am I
willing to take full responsibility for my effect on others? |
 | Do I
see the potential for "leapfrog" growth in my personal and
professional life if I focus on emotional energy? |
 | Do I
appreciate the use of good humor from others? Can't I do the same
thing myself? |
 | Am I a
good-natured, affable person? |
 | Do I
have the guts to do what it takes to be effective, regardless of how
uncomfortable I might feel? |
The
answer should be "yes" to all the above.
Tools
to fit the job at hand

outside of your professional life. |

you grow into the person you do want to be. |
 | Check
your book value today and recheck it every six months. |
 | Use
humor as a leadership tool. |
 | Use
affability as a leadership tool. |

boldness (of thought and action) as a leadership tool. |
 | The
variety of targets possible |

Whatever it is you're afraid to do (but know has to be done), go
ahead and just do it. |
 | Be an
effective executive who has mental, physical, and emotional energy. |
 | Make a
contribution in every meeting or gathering you attend. |
 | Hone
an excellent sense of humor. |
 | Solve
problems in an affable manner, as opposed to running over everyone
in your way. |
